National Gallery of Modern Art launches a virtual program ‘NGMA Ke Sangrah Se’ to showcase artworks

National Gallery of Modern Art presented the virtual program NGMA KE SANGRAH SEOn May 04, 2020, National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) New Delhi, the premier institute in the country that houses modern and contemporary Indian art, has launched a virtual program called  “NGMA KE SANGRAH SE” to showcase an iconic and rare collection of artifacts from its repository.

  • The event is based on various weekly/ daily themes & for the current week, the theme is ‘Artist by Artists’ and dedicated it to Poet Rabindranath Tagore, whose 159th birth anniversary was celebrated  on 7th May 2020.

Key Points:

i.It showcases 102 original paintings by Tagore, a virtual tour called ‘Gurudev, Journey of the Maestro Through His Visual Vocabulary’ and different exhibitions is being held with the aim to give the opportunity to art lovers, artists, art connoisseurs, students, teachers etc. to see the rarely presented artworks from their homes due to coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

ii.Earlier, the NGMA has launched online exhibitions of works by Jamini Roy and Raja Ravi Verma on its website (ngmaindia.gov.in) & also shared permanent collections online to commemorate International Days such as International Women’s Day, International Dance Day and International Workers Day.

About Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941):
Born in Kolkata (West Bengal) on  7 May 1861, he is popularly known as ‘Gurudev’. He got his credits by the worlds of literature, art, music and dance at an early age. In 1913, he became the 1st Indian to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature for his collection ‘Geetanjali’. He also wrote the National Anthems of India and Bangladesh.
