On April 22, 2020 According to Times Higher Education(THE)’s 2nd edition of Impact rankings 2020, The Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Kharagpur has secured 57th rank with a score of 87.9 among global universities. The list is topped by the University of Auckland, New Zealand with a score of 98.5, followed by University of Sydney(98.1), Western Sydney University(97.9) in Australia.
Key Points
i.The rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
ii.IIT Kharagpur achieved 21st in SDG1, 6th in SDG2, 401-600 in SDG3, 201-300th in SDG4, 301-400th in SDG5, 4th in SDG6, 24th rank in SDG7, 34th in SDG8, 75th in SDG9, 201-300 in SDG10, 101-200 in SDG11, 41st in SDG12, 13th in SDG13, 34th in SDG14, 51th in SDG15, 201-300th in SDG16 & 101-200th in SDG17.
iii.Anna University secured 7th & Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science 18th among top 20 positions in individual categories like SDG6 & IIT Madras has been placed at 32nd and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham 48th is placed in top positions under this parameter. IIT Madras also achieves 16th position for SDG9.
iv.Chitkara University is the only university from Punjab to make into the list with the rank of 401-600.
v.Japan is the most-represented nation in the table with 68 institutions, followed by Russia with 49 and Turkey with 40.
