On 14th April 2020, the 76th National Fire Service Day is observed at every Fire Service Station in the city to remember the sacrifice of the 71 Firemen in the Rescue operation of the Freighter SS fort Stikine at the Victoria Dock in the Bombay port following the Fire Prevention Week or Fire Service Week (FSW) from 14th April to 20th April. This year’s theme for FSW is “Samanamagni – Saranam Agni”.Key Points:
i.On this day in 1944,The bombay explosion in the Bombay port resulting in the deaths of 71 firemen and around 1,300 people to commemorate this jawans this day is observed as a National Fire Service Day.
ii.The Day is observed by laying wreaths on the “Martyrs Memorial Column” at the Fire Force Training Ground and observing two minutes silence in memory of the firemen martyrs who died on duty saving lives.
iii.The National Safety Council (NSC) has promoted the FSW Campaign since 1999 to create awareness among the employees and the public on the safety measures using promotional materials like pocket guides, posters and banners.
iv.Events for the National Fire Service Day includes hose drill for male, female guards and ERT, Evacuation drill and mock drill by the fire brigade to the public and employees.
