On 21st April 2020, the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), has approved financial support to MyLab Discovery Solutions, Pune to increase the production of COVID-19 diagnostic kits developed by them. The company in response to their application to the invitation for the proposals for technologically innovative solutions towards fighting COVID-19.
Key points:
i.The TDB invited the application from Indian companies to provide financial assistance to the private limited sector for the commercialization of Indigenous technologies.
ii.MyLab Discovery Solutions is the first company to develop a real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based molecular diagnostic kit to screen and detect the COVID-19 infection from the sample of infected people.
iii.The funding from TDB will be utilised to increase the production rate from 30000 tests per day to 1 lakh tests per day by updating the production facility to automation from the current manual process.
iv.The kit has been approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
