‘Rani Durgavati’ joins Indian Coast Guard as 3rd IPV

Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), vice-admiral Satish Soni, authorized ICGS Rani Durgavati at the Coast Guard district headquarters on 6th july.

ICGS Rani Durgavati:-

• It is the 3rd Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV) of Indian Coast Guard (ICG)of
• five fast patrol vessels .
• Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited.
• It is propelled by 3 MTU 4000 series diesel engines which has 2720 KW capacity at 2100 RPM each coupled with three 7152 Rolls Royce kamewa jets.
• This IPV of 51 meter is equipped with the most-advanced equipment and navigational communication sensors.
• It has the capability of 1,500 nautical miles with a speed of 34 knots.
• It is manned by a 34-member crew, including five officers.
• Commandant S Zakir Hussain is to command the IPV.
• Base is at Karaikal in Puducherry.

ICG(INDIAN COAST GUARD) :-

• ICG is the fourth largest coast guard in the world having 118 ships and 63
• aircrafts and more than 10,000 employees.
• The main purpose of IPV commissioned under ICG is coastal security.
• It is responsible for surveillance along 2,094 km of coastline and 4.25 lakh square km of exclusive economic zones (EEZ).
• The ICG recently decommissioned all the older ships.
• ICG (East) commander and IG, SP Sharma reported there are 84 ships and
• aircrafts under construction at eight different shipyards across the country.

Story behind the name of IPV:-

• The ship is named after 16th century Gond queen Rani Durgavati of Chandel dynasty.
• She is famous in history for bravely fighting against the Mughal army.
