The 8th edition of the Indo – German Energy Forum (IGEF) was conducted on November 1, 2019 in New Delhi. From the Indian side, it was co-chaired by Sanjiv Nandan Sahai, Secretary of power ministry while from the German side it was chaired by Mr. Christian Hirte, Secretary of State of the federal ministry of economic affairs and energy.
8 MoU signed:
During the forum a total of 8 Memorandum of Understandings(MoU) were signed by the Ministry of Power and Ministry of New & Renewable Energy with the German counterparts. The MoUs were on
- Flexibilization in thermal power plants
- Renewable energies
- Energy efficiency and low carbon strategies
- Green energy corridors
Sub groups were also created on the above mentioned areas, where regular meetings will be conducted hereafter.
Key Points:
i.Future collaborations: The future collaborations between the two nations were also finalised. These include areas such as promoting markets for solar energy, promoting energy efficiency through Energy Conservation Building Code(ECBC), flexibilisation of existing coal fired power plants etc.
