83rd Raising Day of the Central Reserve Police Force

The Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF), India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) celebrates the 83rd CRPF Raising Day on 27th July 2021.  The CRPF Raising Day is annually observed across India on 27th July to mark the establishment of the Force.

The day recognises the valour and professionalism of the CRPF and recognises their contribution to securing the internal security of India and maintaining peace.

History:

The Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) came into existence as ‘Crown Representative’s Police’ on 27th July 1939.

The force was renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) by an Act of Parliament on December 28, 1949.

Significance of CRPF:

i.CRPF is the largest paramilitary force of India with 246 battalions(Bns) which includes 208 executive Bns, 6 MahilaBns, 15 Rapid Action Force(RAF) Bns, 10 CoBRABns, 5 Signal Bns and 1 Special Duty Group, 1 Parliament Duty Group.

ii.CRPF is the most decorated Force with 1980 gallantry medals, the highest among the Central Armed Police Forces(CAPF).
