National Good Governance Day is annually observed across Indian on 25th December to create awareness about the accountability of the government. The day also marks the birth anniversary of India’s former Prime Minister(PM) and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who served 3 terms as the Prime Minister of India.
The 25th December 2020 marks the celebration of the 7th National Good Governance Day.
Aim:
The day aims to create awareness among the general public and students about the responsibilities and duties of the Government.
Objective:
i.To create awareness among the votes about the government’s commitment towards transparency and integrity of the administration.
ii.To standardise the operations of the government and to create efficient and responsible government for the people.
iii.To reduce the gap between the government and people and make them an active participant of good governance.
iv.To increase the growth and prosperity of the government through good governance.
Background:
i.On 23rd December 2014, the Government of India headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi made 2 announcements:
- Bharat Ratna, India’s Highest Civilian award was conferred to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya(posthumously).
- The government of India proclaimed the 25th December of every year, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the National Good Governance Day.
ii.The first National Good Governance Day was observed on 25th December 2014.
Events:
i.PM Modi addressed the Nation on the 7th National Good Governance day and sanctioned Rs.18000 crores directly into the bank accounts of 9 crore farmers in around 19000 venues across India under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana(PM-KISAN).
ii.He released the installment of Rs.2000 to every farmer under PM-KISAN scheme and a financial benefit of Rs 6000 per year is given to the small and marginal farmers, which is payable in 3 instalments of Rs.2000 each.
iii.As a part of the observance of 2020 National Good Governance Day A.K.Bhalla, Union Home Secretary and Secretary of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) released the progress report of Electronic-Human Resource Management System (e-HRMS).
iii.This progress report will act as an effective tool for all the ministries.
E-HRMS:
i.The e-HRMS which had 25 applications of 5 modules was launched by Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions on 25th December 2017.
ii.The e-HRMS enables the government employees to access the information related to their services like service book, leave, GPF and Salary.
iii.The advanced version of e-HRMS enables them to apply for various claims, reimbursements, loans, leave, leave encashment, and others over a single platform.
