7th India Water Week - November 1 to 5 2022India Water Week (IWW) is a regular forum organised by the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India to promote awareness about the importance of available water.

IWW 2022 organised from 1st November to 5th November 2022 marks the observance of the 7th Edition of IWW. 

  • The 6th edition of India Water Week was observed from 24th September to 28th September 2019, which was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Delhi.

The theme for IWW 2022 is “Water Security for Sustainable Development with Equity”, which focuses on many areas of water security and management, as well as related concerns for equitable development.

Significance of IWW: 

During IWW the Ministry of Jal Shakti discusses, talks, and strategizes with eminent stakeholders through seminars, exhibitions and sessions to build public awareness, and to get support to implement key strategies for conservation, preservation and optimum use of available water.

Background:

i. India Water Week (IWW) was conceptualized and organized in 2012, to raise public awareness, and to get support to implement key strategies for conservation, preservation and optimum use of available water.

ii. The 1st India Water Week was held in New Delhi from 10th April to 14th April 2012.

IWW 2022 international conference: 

i. IWW 2022, an international conference is held at the India Export Centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

ii. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the India Water Week event on 1st November 2022.

7th India Water Week – 2022

i. The 7th India Water Week 2022 event is a multi-disciplinary international conference.

ii. The 5-day event hosts conferences with Seminars, Panel Discussions, Side Events, Exhibitions and Cultural programmes.

iii. The event has 4 Technical sessions comprised of 10 seminars, 10 panels discussions, and events organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and divisions like the Central Water Commission (CWC), National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD), National Water Mission (NWM) and many.

Partners in Organisation:

i. Denmark, Singapore and Finland will be the partner country for the IWW 2022 event.

ii. The event is organized by the following ministries,

  • Ministry of Power (MoP),
  • Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).
  • Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA),
  • Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES),
  • Department of Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation (DDWS),
  • Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC),

And various state Governments, Expert organizations, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), key International Bodies and Private and Public business groups.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti was formed by merging 2 ministries: the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
