The Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent comprising – Mikoyan-Gurevich (MiG)-29s, Jaguars fighter planes, and C-17 Globemaster III transport planes – is participating in the 7th edition of Exercise Eastern Bridge at Air Force base Masirah, Oman.
- The bilateral exercise began on September 11 2024 and will end on September 22 2024.
Background:
The Exercise Eastern Bridge is a joint exercise between the IAF and the Royal Oman Air Force (RAFO).It has been held annually since 2009.
- The 6th edition of the Exercise Eastern Bridge was held at the IAF’s Jodhpur (Rajasthan) base in India from 21 to 25 February 2022.
About the Exercise Eastern Bridge:
i.Exercise Eastern Bridge aims to enhance tactical and operational skills, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen the ability of both air forces to collaborate effectively in a various circumstances.
ii.The exercise will enhance interoperability between the IAF and the ROAF by providing a platform for both teams to participate in a series of joint training missions designed at strengthening strategic cooperation and operational readiness.
iii.It also highlights the IAF and ROAF’s partnership and commitment to regional security and stability.
iv.It will include complex aerial manoeuvres, air-to-air and air-to-ground operations, and logistical coordination to represent both India and Oman’s increasing defence demands and strategic interests.
IA Participates in the 5th Al Najah Exercise in Oman
The 5th edition of the bilateral military exercise Al NAJAH between the Indian Army(IA) and the Royal Army of Oman began on September 13, 2024 at the Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman. It will end on 26th September, 2024.
- It has been held biennially since 2015. The 4th edition of the exercise was conducted at Mahajan in Rajasthan.
- The IA contingent comprising 60 personnel is being represented by a Battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment along with personnel from other arms and services. The Royal Army of Oman contingent also comprising of 60 personnel will be represented by the troops of Frontier Force.
