76th NCC Raising Day 2024 – November 24

The National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organization in the world celebrates its raising day on the 4th Sunday of November. The day is to honor the contributions of the NCC towards shaping the youth of the country and recognizing their contributions to national service.

The 24 November 2024 marks the observance of the 76th NCC Raising Day.

  • The 75th NCC Raising Day was observed on 26th November 2023.
  • The 77th NCC Raising Day will be observed on 23rd November 2025.

Background: 

i.On 29th September 1946, The Cadet Corps Committee was established with Pt HN Kunzru as its chairman.

ii.On June 15, 1948, the NCC was officially established through an ordinance issued by the Government of India, functioning as an auxiliary educational organization of the Indian Army and Navy.

iii.On the 4th Sunday of November NCC Day is observed every year to commemorate the day in 1947 when the first units of the NCCs were established in Delhi.

National Cadet Corps (NCC):

i.NCC is a voluntary youth organization in India that aims to develop leadership, discipline, and patriotism among young people.

ii.It functions under the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and its motto is “Unity and Discipline”which was adopted on 23 Dec 1957.

iii.The NCC flag features three colors: Red for the Army, Deep blue for the Navy, and Light blue for the Air Force.

iv.The flag is adorned with the letters “NCC” and the NCC crest in gold at its center, surrounded by a wreath of lotus, giving it a vibrant appearance and a unique identity.

  • The NCC syllabus has been revamped to align with initiatives like Skill Manthan, I4C (Cyber Awareness), and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF)/State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) training, focusing on character building and confidence to support the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Award:

Raksha Mantri’s Padak is highest NCC award, given by the Defence Minister of India to NCC personnel for their outstanding performance, commitment to service and leadership.

Raksha Mantri Padaks 2023 were awarded to:

  • Senior Under Officer Makkatira Kalpana Kuttappa (Karnataka & Goa Directorate).
  • Junior Under Officer Dechen Chuskit (Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh Directorate).

Raksha Mantri Commendation Cards 2023 were given to:

  • Under Officer Amar Morang (North Eastern Region Directorate).
  • Senior Under Officer Jyotirmaya Singh Chauhan (Uttar Pradesh Directorate).

2024 events:

Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Secretary paid homage to the fallen heroes at National War Memorial, India Gate, New Delhi.
