64th Annual Grammy Awards 2022

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards (Grammy 2022) was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. This was the 1st time a Grammy Awards ceremony was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America(USA)

The 64th GRAMMY Awards recognize recordings released between 1st September 2020 and 30th September 2021.

  • The Grammy Awards, presented by the Recording Academy or National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, since 1957 honour musical artists, compositions and albums.

In Grammy 2022, the number of categories has been increased from 84 in 2020 to 86.

  • The 2 new categories are Best Global Music Performance (Global Music Field) and Best Música Urbana Album (Latin Music Field)

Host: 

Trevor Noah, South African comedian and the face of “The Daily Show,” hosted the Grammy for the 2nd year in a row. 

Highlights of Grammy 2022:

i.Jon Batiste (Jonathan Michael Batiste), an American singer, songwriter, and musician has won 5 Grammys which include, Album of The Year for his Long Play(LP) We Are; Best American Roots Performance for Cry; Best American Roots Song for Cry; Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for Soul and Best Music Video for Freedom

ii.Olivia Rodrigo(19-year-old), an American singer-songwriter has won 3 awards including the Best New Artist and she has also won the Best Pop Vocal Album for “Sour” and Best Pop Solo Performance “Drivers License.” 

iii.Silk Sonic, a joint project between Bruno Mars and rapper/drummer Anderson .Paak, has won the Record Of The Year award for Leave The Door Open. 

With this award, Bruno Mars has become the 2nd artist in Grammy history to win the Record of the year 3 times. He previously won as a featured artist on Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” and on his own for “24K Magic.

iv.Indian-American singer Falguni Shah also known as ‘Falu’ has won the Best Children’s Music Album award for ‘A Colorful World’. This is Falguni Shah’s first-ever Grammy win. 

v.Bengaluru-based Music composer Ricky Kej along with American musician Stewart Copeland won the grammy for Best New Age Album for “Divine Tides”. This marks Ricky Kej’s 2nd Grammy award, previously he won the grammy for Best New Age Album for ‘Winds Of Samsara’ at the 57th Grammy(2014). He shared that award with Wouter Kellerman.

vi.Arooj Aftab (37-year-old), Brooklyn(America) based Pakistani vocalist, won the Grammy in the Best Global Performance category for her song Mohabbat. She became the first Pakistani woman artist to win a Grammy.

Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award:

i.Bonnie Lynn Raitt (Bonnie Raitt), an American blues singer, songwriter, and activist has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award during the 64th Annual GRAMMY Nominees reception held on 30th January 2022. 

ii.The Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates “performers who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording.” 

iii.Bonnie Raitt is a 10-time Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
