On September 4, 2020 Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers(SIAM) organised and hosted its 60th SIAM Annual Convention 2020 virtually, titled “Re-Building the Nation, Responsibly”. SIAM appointed Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director(MD) and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd appointed as its new President. He succeeds Rajan Wadhera, Senior Advisor, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

- Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, Ashok Leyland Ltd, appointed as the Vice President of SIAM
- Vinod Aggarwal, MD & CEO, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd (VECV) will continue to be the Treasurer of SIAM.
60th SIAM Annual Convention was Addressed by
Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Information & Broadcasting and Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways among others.
22 green expressways at an estimated cost of Rs 3.10 lakh crore comprising 7,500 km are planned to be executed in the next couple of years.Rs 1 lakh crore Delhi-Mumbai Express Highway are also to be executed.
India has World’s 2nd largest road network: Nitin Jairam Gadkari
i.Nitin Jairam Gadkari stated that currently India has the 2nd largest road network in the world, which is being fuelled by the tremendous growth in construction of expressways and highways.
ii.He informed that the current average rate of road building per day is 30 kilometres per day and the highest being 40 km per day of highways.

On 8th August 2020, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises(MSME) and Road Transport & Highways addressed the “India@75 Summit – Mission 2022” organised by the confederation of Indian Industries(CII) which was focused on ‘reinventing technology in India’. He stated that to achieve self-reliant India, the MSME Ministry and Industries should be made import substitutes, cost-effective, pollution-free and indigenous.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari accepted the Punjab state government’s demand for including Amritsar in an expressway project that will connect Delhi and Katra, Jammu & Kashmir. In this regard, a Greenfield connectivity will be developed in Punjab stretch of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway to Amritsar City from Nakodar in Jalandhar (Punjab) via five historic towns of Sultanpur Lodhi, Goindwal Sahib, Khadoor Sahib and Tarn Taran.
