On December 17-18, 2020, the 35th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) 2020 between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy was held to strengthen inter-operability and to build strong bonds of friendship across the Indo Pacific.
- The Indian side was represented by Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kulish, an indigenously built missile corvette along with P8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) while Indonesian side was led by Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Cut Nyak Dien, a Kapitan Pattimura (Parchim I) class corvette and a MPA of the Indonesian Navy.
Key Points:
–As part of Government of India’s vision of SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region), the Indian Navy is engaging with countries in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) for Coordinated Patrols, cooperation in Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Surveillance, Passage exercises and Bilateral/ Multi-lateral exercises to enhance regional maritime security.
–Both navies are carrying out CORPAT along their International Maritime Boundary Line since 2002, with the aim of ensuring safety and security of shipping and international trade in the region along with preventing Illegal Unreported Unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery and piracy.

SAGAR was termed by PM Narendra Modi on 2015 with 5 points viz, To seek a climate of trust and transparency; Respect for international maritime rules and norms by all countries; Sensitivity to each other`s interests; Peaceful resolution of maritime issues and Increase in maritime cooperation.
Recent Initiative– As part of Mission SAGAR, INS Kesari has entered Port Victoria, Seychelles to providing assistance in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

i.A two-day joint coastal security annual exercise “Sagar Kavach” was held on November 5-6 at Paradip Coast, Odisha. It was carried out by the state governments of Odisha and West Bengal.
ii.On November 18-20, 2020, the 30th edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy was conducted in Andaman Sea close to the strategic Strait of Malacca.
