The award ceremony of the “2nd edition of Awards for Excellence in District Skill Development Planning’ (DSDP)” was organised at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, Delhi.
During the event, 30 districts were felicitated for their innovative best practices in skill development in the region.
- Among the participated districts, Rajkot in Gujarat has topped the ranking (rank 1) followed by Cachar in Assam (Rank 2) and Satara in Maharashtra (Rank 3).
30 districts were selected, and awards were given under the following 3 categories:
Category I: Awards for Excellence in DSDP – 8 Winners
Category II: Certificate for Excellence in DSDP – 13 Winners
Category III: Letter of Appreciation for DSDP – 9 Winners
Note: Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi and IIT Kharagpur were the evaluation partners to assess the award entries.
Key People:
District Collectors, District Magistrates and other representatives from across 30 States attended the award ceremony.
About the Awards for Excellence in DSDP:
i.The awards for Excellence in District Skill Development Planning’ (DSDP) were instituted under the Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) Scheme by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MSDE) in June 2018.
ii.The first edition of the DSDP Awards was held in 2018-19. Around 228 districts from 19 states participated in the initiative.
Key Points:
i.The MSDE envisages that these DSDP Awards will encourage the District Skill Committees (DSCs) and promote a better understanding of DSDP using capabilities for implementing targeted projects at the district level.
ii.The awards aim to maximise the impacts of the primary initiative of SANKALP: to strengthen institutional mechanisms for skill development at the state and district levels.
Additional info:
i.The District Skill Committees (DSC) of Rajkot(Gujarat) implemented various projects to promote skill development in the district. Rajkot, focused on skilling People with Disability(PwD) also supported the people with learning disabilities and dyslexia.
ii.Assam’s Cachar DSC provided the solution to address the supply chain challenges faced by the pineapple farmers of the district.
iii.DSC of Satara (Maharashtra) implemented various programmes to strengthen skilling, and training a workforce for disaster management.
About Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP):
SANKALP is an initiative under the MSDE with loan assistance from the World Bank.
Aim: To improve short-term skill training qualitatively and quantitatively through strengthening institutions, bringing in better market connectivity and inclusion of marginalised sections of the society.
