On December 12, 2020, the 2nd Bangladesh-India Cotton Festival 2020 was held at Hotel Radisson Blu Water Garden in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was jointly organized by Bangladesh Cotton Association (BCA), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Indian Cotton Association Ltd. (ICAL), India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI).
- Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman was the chief guest of the fest.
- The festival showcasing the best practices of Bangladesh cotton industry was attended by 30 Indian companies.
- Bangladesh is projecting an import of around 9 million bales by the year 2021.
- Bangladesh intends to double its export of Ready Made Garments (RMG) over the next 5 years for which a secure and quality cotton supply was its top priority.
Bangladesh is one of the top cotton importing nations. It imports over 98% of the cotton from nearly 42 countries. In FY 2019-20, 61 lakh bales of cotton was imported.
Other Participants; Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Sheikh Fazle Fahim, President, BTMA Mohammad Ali Khokon, IBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmad, President, ICAL, Mahesh Sharda, President, BCA Sultan Riaz Chowdhury were also present.
