A 3-day long 22nd edition of India International Seafood Show (IISS), 2020 based on the theme “Blue Revolution- Beyond Production to Value Addition” has commenced at Hotel Grand Hyatt in Kochi, Kerala.
The show is being organized jointly by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under Ministry of Commerce and Industry & the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI).Key Points:
i.It is a biennial show, this time being held in Kochi after 12 years, its 21st edition was held in Goa in January 2018.
ii.Partakers:More than 200 exhibitors, 350 stalls and over 5000 delegates, including foreign delegates, are expected to attend the event at Kochi.
iii.Purpose:It provides a platform for partnership between Indian exporters and foreign importers of Indian marine products.
iv.Significance: The India International Seafood Show is one of the oldest and largest seafood shows in the world. It attracts marine product traders from major markets in the United States, European Union, Japan, South-East Asia and other countries.
v.Export of marine products by India: During the year 2018-19, India exported more than 14,37,000 tonnes of marine products which according to the final figures is $6.70 billion.
vi.Goal: Under the multi-pronged strategy, exports of marine products have been set at a target of US $ 15 billion in the next 5 years.
India targets seafood export at $10 billion by 2020
As India is the second largest aquaculture producer in the world, it had set the target of seafood export at $10 billion by this year (i.e 2020).
