On 17th March 2022, Hurun India released a report titled “2022 M3M Hurun Global Rich List”, a ranking of United States(US) dollar billionaires in the world. According to the report, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & Managing Director(CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has emerged as the Richest Indian and Richest Asian & Ranked 9th Globally.
- Mukesh Ambani is the only Indian to feature in the world’s top 10 billionaires list.He has also earned the ‘Richest Telecom Entrepreneur’ title.
- Elon Musk co-founder and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Tesla has topped the Billionaires list as the World’s richest person for the 2nd consecutive year with USD 205 billion(bn).

Highlights of 2022 M3M Hurun Global Rich List:
i.The 2022 M3M Hurun Global Rich List ranks 3381 billionaires from 2558 companies and 69 countries.
ii.Asia leads the list with 57% of the world’s population, accounting for 66% of new faces, 52% of billionaires and 42% of the wealth. Asia is followed by North America and Europe which accounts for 15% of the world’s population, 32% of new faces, 44% of billionaires and 55% of total wealth.
iii.China leads the list with 1133 billionaires followed by the USA with 716 billionaires, India with 215 billionaires and United Kingdom(UK) with 150 billionaires.

India:
i.At present India has 249 billionaires which include 215 billionaires living in India and 34 billionaires of Indian origin living outside India.
ii.India secured 3rd spot with 215 billionaires, which is 38 more than 2021 and Healthcare, Consumer Goods and Chemicals sectors tops the list with 46, 29 and 23 billionaires each.
iii.Mumbai became the billionaire capital of India with 72 billionaires followed by New Delhi with 51.
iv.LN Mittal of ArcelorMittal in London tops the list of billionaires of Indian origin living outside India.
v.Jumping 916 ranks over the last two years, and with a wealth of $3.3 billion Byju Raveendran and family, ranked 1083rd, was the third richest entrepreneur from the education sector in the world.
Highlights:
i.Gautam Adani and the Family of energy conglomerate Adani Group was the world’s fastest riser and Gautam Adani is the 2nd richest Asian after Mukesh Ambani.
- Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani – placed 12th on the global list, also got named the ‘Richest Energy Entrepreneur’.
ii.Falguni Nayar, Founder of Nykaa became India’s most successful self-made woman, with USD 7.6 billion, overtaking Kiran Mazumdar of Biocon for the first time.
- Falguani Nayar along with her husband, Sanjay Nayar has become the wealthiest new entrant on the list.
iii.For the first time, 6 Indian unicorn founders have entered the 2022 list.
iv.Rajinder Gupta of Trident made the list for the first time with USD 3.3 billion following the increase in demand for home textile after lockdown restrictions were eased in the US and Europe.
