On the sidelines of PM Narendra Modi visit to UK, India and United Kingdom launched a joint initiative “2016: UK-INDIA Year of Education, Research and Innovation” in New Delhi to increase mobility of students and faculty.
- The programme was launched by Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Smriti Irani and the Secretary of State, Business Innovation and Skills, UK, Mr. Sajid Javid.
- Apart from above, 20th Year of the Chevening Gurukul Fellowship Programme for Leadership and Excellence, the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s leading fellowship in India.
Key Highlights of 2016: UK-INDIA Year of Education, Research and Innovation
India and UK aim to create a professional network of academicians and work towards promoting research, education and teaching.
GIAN programme – Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) will enable UK academicians would come to Indian institutions to teach courses.
UKIERI-III – Third phase of UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI-III) with budgetary allocation of 3 million GBP per year from each side will commence from 1st April 2016 which will provide a basic framework for the bilateral cooperation between India and UK over the next 5 years.
IMPRINT – The programme will enhance partnership in research work in ten research priority areas under IMPRINT (IMPacting Research Innovation and Technology).
Generation UK India – UK is looking forward to send 25000 UK students to India in next 5 years.
Ranking Framework of Indian institutions will provide a mechanism to UK students to get an idea of quality of Indian institutions.
Technology Summit 2016
Department of Science and Technology and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in partnership with United Kingdom will organize “Technology Summit 2016” on 24th-26th October, 2016 in New Delhi.
