15th Edition of Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022 at Kochi, KeralaFrom November 4-6, 2022, the 15th edition of Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022 held at Hotel Grand Hyatt , Kochi, Kerala which was jointly inaugurated by the Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA); and Chief Minister (CM) of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan.

Theme of 15th UMI:

‘Azadi@75: Sustainable AtmaNirbhar Urban Mobility’

  • The theme emphasizes on designing and implementing efficient, high quality and sustainable transport system in the cities.

Organizers of 15th UMI:

MoHUA in collaboration with Government of Kerala

Objective of 15th UMI:

i.To disseminate information to the cities in order to keep them up-to-date with latest and best urban transport practices globally.

ii.To provide opportunity to interact with professionals, technology and service providers, both domestic and international for sustainable development of urban transport.

16th UMI 2023:

The 16th UMI Conference and Expo 2023 will be held at Delhi from October 27 – 29, 2023 on the theme ‘Integrated and Resilient Urban Transport’.

Key Facts:

i.As of September 2022, 810 kms of metro line are operational in 20 cities and a network of more than 980 kms of metro network and Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) is currently under construction in 27 cities.

ii.India currently has the 5th largest metro network in the world. It is expected that India will succeed Japan and South Korea to become the third-largest network.

iii.On the lines of Central Government’s objective of ‘moving people rather than vehicles’, the Kochi Water Metro project of Kochi Metro connects 10 islands through 15 routes and cater to a daily ridership of more than 100,000 people across 78 kilometres of network.

About UMI:

Initiated in 2008, UMI Conference and Expo is a flagship event held under the aegis of the MoHUA to emphasize on building capabilities at the State and city level to address the problems associated with urban transport for the development of sustainable urban transport systems.

Point to be noted:

On August 15, 2022, the Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi outlined the roadmap for India @2047 with the following Panch Pran to make India a developed country:

i.Big resolve for a Developed India

ii.Let not a single trace of slavery remain in us

iii.We should be proud of our heritage

iv.We have to live in unity and solidarity

v.Every citizen should perform his duty

Participants:

Senior officers from Central and State Governments policy makers, Managing Directors of Metro Rail Companies, Chief Executives of transport undertakings, International experts, professionals, academicians and students will participate in this event.

i.The 7th biennial international Exhibition and Conference “Bengaluru Space Expo (BSX-2022)” was held from September 05-07, 2022 at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bengaluru, Karnataka.The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organized it in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN- SPACe), and the Space Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).
