The 15th Edition of India Digital Summit 2021 (IDS 2021) organized by Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) took place virtually from January 19-20, 2021. It was inaugurated by Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister of Electronics & Information Technology.
i.Theme – ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat – Start of New Decade’
- Objective – To provide a platform for discussion to create a new digital ecosystem
- Discussions were held on the digital initiatives in the fields of Policies, Business, Investment, Advertising, Digital Commerce, Start-ups Ecosystem, Emerging tech and other digital trends.
ii.The event was attended by Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder of PayTm, Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog among others.
During the 2-day event, the agendas discussed were
- Digitally Recharging Small & Medium Businesses
- Digital Policies from Global Perspective but Indian Reality
- Nurturing Indian Startups
iii.Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad stated that the Government is looking forward to the changes being made by WhatsApp, a social messaging platform.
- As per the latest policy of WhatsApp, the company stated that it had the right to share data collected from WhatsApp users with the Network of Facebook (including Instagram).
- Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog stated that if India aims to grow at 9-10% in the 3-Decade Period it must be an integral part of the Global Supply Chain.
iv.During the event, the 11th India Digital Awards 2021 were also announced.The awards were given in the fields of Digital Advertising, Digital Content, Social Media, Technology Solution, Payments & Fintech, Digital Social & Economic Empowerment, Special Achievement Awards.
- Digital Person of the year – Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Info Edge
- Digital Startup of the year – Khatabook
- Digital Agency of the Year: Gold – Wunderman Thompson, Silver – Kinnect, Bronze – WATConsult
- Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (AMUL) bagged 4 awards in the event.
