11th “INDRA 2019” which is a joint tri services exercise between India and Russia is to be held from December 10-19 2019, simultaneously at Babina (near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh(UP)), Pune and Goa. Both the nation’s armed forces will jointly evolve drills to defeat the scourge of terror under the United Nations(UN) mandate. Esprit-de-corps and goodwill will be the key areas during the exercise which will facilitate further strengthening of bonds between the defence forces of India and Russia.Key Points:
i.The INDRA series exercise began in 2003 while its 1st joint Tri Services Exercise was conducted in 2017.
ii.Participation: The 10day long exercise will have fighter and transport aircraft as well as ships of respective Army, Air Force and Navy from the Indian side.
iii.Training phase: The exercise will comprise for 5-day training phase. This phase covers tactical operations end drills such as cordon house intervention, handling and neutralisation of Improvised Explosive Devices(IED), prevention of arms smuggling through the sea route and anti-piracy measures.
iv.Following the training phase, will be a 72hour validation exercise after which the INDRA 2019 will culminate on December 19, 2019 with an Integrated Fire Power demonstration and the closing ceremony.
v.In preparation of the exercise, a conference was conducted in two phases, where the phase 1 was conducted from November 7-8 at respective service locations of Babina, Pune and Goa to discuss service specific modalities. The phase 2 was conducted in New Delhi from November 9-10, 2019 to fine-tune joint service for smooth execution of the drill.
vi.2018 edition: The 10th edition of the exercise in 2018 was held at Babina Military Station, in Jhansi, UP.
