Watchdog TI ranked India at 76 in CPI

Corruption Watchdog Transparency International (TI) has ranked India at 76^th place in its Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2015 out of 168 countries with a score of 38 out of 100.

• This indicated that the perceptions around the extent of corruption in the country are improving as compared to 85^th rank in 2014 and 94^th rank in 2013.
• The corruption watchdog uses data from institutions including the World Bank, the African Development Bank and business school IMD to compile public sector corruption on scale.
• The index grades a country on a scale from 100 (very clean) to 0 (highly corrupt).

Other Countries Rank

• Denmark has topped the index for the second consecutive year. It scored 91 points perceiving as the least corrupt country.
• Top ranks from second to ninth were held by Finland, Sweden, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore and Canada.
• The UK has been placed at 10^th place with a score of 81 that tied it with Germany and Luxembourg.
• The US has been ranked at 16^th place with a score of 76, tying with Austria.
• Brazil, Burkina Faso, Thailand, Tunisia and Zambia are sharing pace with India at 76^th
• North Korea and Somalia remained the lowest scorers with just 8 point.
