Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal constitutes Task Force to impart Technical Education in Mother Tongue

Union Education Minister sets up a task force for preparing a roadmapOn December 2, 2020 Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ constituted a Task Force for preparing a blueprint on imparting Technical Education in Mother Tongue. The Task Force will be headed by Secretary of Higher Education (Amit Khare).

The Task Force will submit a report in 1 month based on suggestions made by various stakeholders.

High-Level Meeting:

i.The decision to constitute a Task Force was taken by Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal during a high level meeting on the Implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) – 2020.

ii.The Meeting was attended by Amit Khare, Secretary of Higher Education, IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Directors, Academicians and other senior officials of the Education Ministry.

Importance of Mother Tongue:

i.The Main objective is that no students should be deprived of Technical Education due to lack of Knowledge of English Language.

ii.The Initiative is a step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of students pursuing Professional courses such as Medicine, Engineering, Law and other courses in their Mother Tongue.

iii.On November 26, 2020, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that a few Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) & National Institute of Technology (NITs) have been shortlisted for offering Engineering courses in Mother Tongue from the next Academic Year (2021-22).

NEP 2020:

i.The NEP 2020 had mandated that the Medium of instruction up to Grade 5, which can be extended till Grade 8 will be in Mother Tongue/Regional Language.

ii.The policy will be followed by both public and private schools.
