Overview of President Ram Nath Kovind’s Visit to Diu from December 25-28, 2020

President of India Visited Diu from December 25 to 28President of India Ram Nath Kovind visited Diu Town in the Union Territory (UT) of Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu from December 25-28, 2020.  During the visit, he laid Foundation stone & Inaugurated many developmental projects.

Inauguration & Laying of Foundation Stone for Developmental Projects:

During the visit, President inaugurated

i.Inaugurated Jalandhar Circuit House in Diu.

ii.Inaugurated the 1st academic session of IIIT (International Institute of Information Technology) Vadodara-International Campus Diu & Kamleshwar School, Ghoghla.

He laid Foundation Stone for

i.Construction of school at Saudwadi

ii.improvement of 1.3 Kms heritage walk-way on Diu City Wall

iii.Conservation & facade restoration of heritage precincts (Zampa & market precinct)

iv.Upgradation of fruits & vegetable market at Fort Road.

v.Development of Integrated municipal solid waste management system for entire urban & rural areas of  Diu district.

Other Inaugurations:

i.Apart from these he inaugurated the INS (Indian Navy Ship) Khukri Memorial. INS Khukri is Indian Navy’s only warship to be lost in a war to date.

ii.He also visited the Diu Fort and inaugurated the Light & Sound show at the venue.

Key Points from President’s Address during the visit:

i.Diu city is the 1st City in India which has fulfilled 100% of its energy needs during the day with solar energy.

ii.All 3 districts of the Union Territory were declared ‘Open Defecation Free’ in 2017.

iii.Daman & Diu was ranked 1st in the ‘Swachh Survekshan’ of 2019.
