India & Uzbekistan Pushes Cooperation to Boost Economic Ties

India, Uzbekistan push state to state co-operation to boost economic ties

Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade – Sardor Umurzakov & Indian Envoy, Manish Prabhat took part in a meeting, where they decided to promote interregional cooperation, especially between Andijan (Uzbekistan) and Gujarat (India).

  • They also discussed various financial-technical cooperation between India & Uzbekistan & signed agreements for strengthening the cooperations.

Financial Allocation:

i.The Countries welcomed the financial allocation of $448 million by Eximbank of India for implementation of priority projects in Uzbekistan (that includes infrastructure development and education).

ii.The Projects regarding Information Technology and healthcare under Indian grants will also be accelerated.

Key Highlights:

i.The direct interaction for the implementation of joint projects in the investment, trade and cultural-humanitarian spheres will be established between Uzbekistan and India.

  • The cities connected for the joint projects are Uzbekistan’s Fergana region & Haryana, the cities of Bukhara & Hyderabad and Tashkent & New Delhi.

Significance:

i.2 MoUs were signed between the Indian Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan:

  • Creation and equipping of a new metrological laboratory in the Republican Scientific Specialized Allergy Center.
  • Equipping secondary schools in the Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan with computer devices.

Other Agreements:

i.India & Uzbekistan have decided to push the Agreement on Preferential Trade, Agreement on the Encouragement and Mutual Protection of Investments.

ii.Uzbekistan has welcomed the initiative to create a joint Working Group on trade-economic issues.
