On 11th August 2020, The Ministry of Tribal Affairs(MoTA) announced that the nine Tribal Freedom Fighters Museums that are under development by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to recognise the contribution of the tribal freedom fighters will be completed by the end of 2022.
About Museums:
i.The approval of the museums and the monitoring of their progress were constituted by the National Level Committee headed by Secretary of MoTA.
ii.Out of the 9 sanctioned museums, 2 museums are near completion and 7 are at the different stages of progress.
iii.The nine museums are being developed in Gujarat(Rajpipla), Jharkhand(Ranchi), Andhra Pradesh(Lambasingi), Chhattisgarh(Raipur), Kerala (Kozhikode), Madhya Pradesh (Chhindwara), Telangana (Hyderabad), Manipur (Senapati) and Mizoram (Kelsi).
iv.New museums will be sanctioned in collaboration with the state governments.
Tribal Resistance Movement:
i.The Tribal resistance movement against the british rule played a key role in the freedom
movement of India.
ii.The museums in the different states are dedicated to the tribal leaders like LaxmanNaik, Veer Surendra Sai and many others for their heroic role which contributed to India’s Freedom movement.
Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum:
i.The Museum to be set at Ranchi, Jharkhand at a cost of Rs.36.66 crore is dedicated to
freedom fighter Birsa Munda .
ii.The Museum to be set at Senapati, Manipur at a cost of Rs.51.38 crore the second
expensive museum after the Gujarat Museum will be dedicated to Rani Gaidinliu.
iii.The Museum to be set at Raipur, Chhattisgarh at a cost of Rs.25.66 crore will be
dedicated to Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh.
iv.The Museum to be set at Lambasingi, Andhra Pradesh at a cost of Rs.35crore will be
dedicated to Alluri Seetharama Raju.
v.The Museum to be set at Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh at a cost of Rs.38.26 crore will be dedicated to Tantya Bheel, Bheema Nayak and Khajya Nayak.
vi.The Museum to be set at Hyderabad, Telangana at a cost of Rs.18 crore will be dedicated to Ramji Gond.
Features:
i.The Museums will utilise latest technologies like Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, 3 dimensional(3D) and 7 dimensional(7D) holographic projects and others.
ii.These will demonstrate the struggles of the tribal people to protect their custodial concerns of the biological and cultural diversity of India.
Note:
Among the nine museums the state of the art museum in Rajpipla, Gujarat is the largest with a project cost of Rs.102.55 crores.
Background:
i.During the Independence day speech on 15th August 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement regarding the establishment of Tribal Freedom Fighters Museums by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
ii.The museums are being developed in the states where the tribal leaders lived and fought against British rule.
iii.These museums will enable the future generation to understand the contribution of the tribal freedom fighters.

i.Arjun Munda, the Union Tribal Affairs Minister has launched the “Programme for Capacity Building of Scheduled Tribe (ST) Representatives in Local Self Governments (LSG)” in Bhubhaneswar, Odisha. He also launched “1000 Spring Initiatives” and an online portal on GIS (Geographic Information System)-based Spring Atlas with hydrological and chemical properties of the Springs.
