4 Indian Origin Women features on Forbes’ America’s Richest Self-Made Women 2023

ninth Forbes’ Richest Self-Made Women list of 2023.4 Indian Americans, Jayshree Ullal, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Arista Networks, Neerja Sethi, co-Founder of Syntel, Neha Narkhede, co-founder of Confluent, and Indra Nooyi, former chair and CEO of PepsiCo, were featured on the 2023 America’s Richest Self-Made Women, 9th edition of Forbes’ annual ranking of the United States of America (USA)’s most successful women entrepreneurs, executives and entertainers.

  • Jayshree Ullal is ranked 15th with net worth of USD 2.2 billion, Neerja Sethi, is ranked 25th with net worth of USD 990 million, Neha Narkhede is ranked 50th with net worth of USD 520 million and Indra Nooyi is ranked 77th with net worth of USD 350 million
  • The combined net worth of these 4 women stands at USD 4.06 Billion.

The list is topped by Diane Hendricks, Chairman and founder of ABC Supply Co., Inc. (ABC), for the 6th consecutive year, with net worth of USD 15 billion.

Diane is followed by Judy Love and Family, Chairman And CEO, Love’s Travel Stops And Country Stores, with USD 10.2 billion and Judy Faulkner, Founder and CEO of Epic Systems with USD 7.4 billion.

Four Women of Indian Origin:

JayshreeUllal:

i. She has been president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the publicly-traded networking company, Arista Networks since 2008 and owns about 2.4%, which recorded revenue of nearly USD 4.4 billion in 2022.

ii. She is also on the board of directors of Snowflake, a cloud computing company that went public in September 2020.

NeerjaSethi:

i. She co-founded Information Technology (IT) consulting and outsourcing firm Syntel with her husband Bharat Desai in 1980 in their apartment in Troy, Michigan (USA).

ii. In 2018, they sold it to French IT firm Atos SE for USD 3.4 billion.

Neha Narkhede:

i. In 2014, she co-founded left to found Confluent along with her two LinkedIn colleagues, which helps organisations process large amounts of data on Apache Kafka.

ii. The USD 586 million (2022 revenues) company went public in June 2021 at a USD 9.1 billion valuation; She owns around 6%.

iii. In March 2023, she announced her new company, fraud detection firm Oscilar, where she is the co-founder and CEO.

IndraNooyi:

i. She retired as PepsiCo’s CEO in 2018 and as chair in 2019, after 24 years with the company.

ii. She joined the board of Amazon in 2019 and grew up in India. She joined scandal-plagued Deutsche Bank’s new Global Advisory Board in November 2022.

Key Highlights:

i. Shonda Rhimes, American Television Producer and Daphne Koller, CEO, Insitro, whose firm is using AI to develop drugs more quickly, are among the 8 newcomers.

ii. Forbes valued individual assets including stakes in public companies using stock prices from May 12, 2023 to compile net worths.

iii. Forbes valued private companies by consulting with outside experts and conservatively comparing them with public companies.

Forbes World’s Most Influential CMOs List 2023: Sumit Virmani of Infosys ranked 41 

Sumit Virmani, chief marketing officer (CMO) of Infosys (India) is ranked 41st on the The Forbes World’s Most Influential CMOs List 2023, which recognises the 50 Most Influential CMOs in the World.

  • The 2023 list was announced on 6th July 2023 at a special luncheon at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, France.
  • The list is topped by William White, CMO of Walmart (United States of America) and is followed by Marcel Marcondes, Global CMO of Anheuser-Busch InBev (Belgium) in the 2nd and Conny Braams, Chief Digital and Commercial Officer of Unilever (England) in the 3rd.

About Sumit Virmani:

i. He joined Infosys in 2004, and took the roles of Executive Vice President (EVP) and Global Chief Marketing Officer in 2019.

ii. He is now overseeing market research, business alliances and development, direct marketing, and market strategy.

iii. At the beginning of 2022, Infosys was named the fastest growing IT Services brand in the world.

iv. At the end of March 2023, Infosys reported quarterly revenue growth of over 6% Year on Year.

Key Highlights:

i. Indian origin Asmita Dubey, Chief Digital & Marketing Officer, L’Oreal is at 21 on the list.

ii. Forbes Hall of Fame created in 2022 recognizes Morgan Flatley, Global CMO at McDonald’s, into the Forbes CMO Hall of Fame 2023.

Note: She is the only one chief-marketer and had made the list 4 times previously and was thus the only CMO eligible for inclusion in the 2023 Hall of Fame class.
