India clinches 14 medals in Asian Wrestling Championships 2021India bagged 14 Medals (5 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze) in the 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships held at Almaty, Kazakhstan from April 13-18, 2021. It is the 34th edition of the Asian Wrestling Championships.

  • Iran & Kazakhstan both finished at the Top Position with 17 Medals each.
  • The championships took place across 3 disciplines of wrestling – Men’s Freestyle, Men’s Greco-Roman & Women’s Wrestling (Freestyle).
  • It is organized by the United World Wrestling (UWW).

Highlights

i.Vinesh Phogat claimed her Maiden Gold Medal in Asian Wrestling Championships. She won the Gold medal in the Women’s Freestyle 53 Kg event.

ii.Divya Kakran bagged the Gold Medal in the Women’s 72 Kg Freestyle, while Sakshi Malik bagged the Silver medal in the Women’s 65 Kg Freestyle.

iii.Sarita Mor won Gold medal in the Women’s 59 Kg Freestyle,

  • She became the 1st Indian Woman to win consecutive gold medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships. She won the Gold Medal in the same category in the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships held at New Delhi.

iv.Ravi Kumar Dahiya bagged the Gold medal in the Men’s 57 Kg Freestyle retained his Asian Championship Title.

  • He won the Gold medal in the same category in the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships.
  • He also became the Third Indian Male wrestler (after Yogeshwar Dutt and Bajrang Punia) to secure a second Asian Championships gold medal.
