Winners of ICC Awards 2022 Announced: India’s Suryakumar Yadav & Renuka Singh Among Winners

ICC Awards 2022The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the winners of the ICC awards 2022, India’s Suryakumar Yadav has won the  ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022 while compatriot Renuka Singh has won the ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2022 award.

Key Points:

i.Suryakumar Yadav became the 2nd batter after Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan to score more than 1000 runs in 2022 in T20Is and finished the year as the highest run-getter by scoring 1164 runs at a strike rate of 187.43.

  • He scored 68 sixes during 2022, the most by any player in a year in T20I history.

ii.Renuka Singh picked 40 international wickets in 2022 and showcased an outstanding performance with her seam and swing bowling.

  • She claimed 40 wickets(18 ODI wickets and 22 T20I wickets) for India in 2022 in just 29 matches across the two white-ball formats.

Babar Azam & Nat Sciver wins 2 awards in ICC Awards 2022:

Pakistan’s Babar Azam and England’s all-rounder Nat Sciver have won 2 awards each among the categories revealed by ICC Award 2022.

  • Babar Azam won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2022 as well as ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year 2022.
  • Nat Sciver won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year.

England’s Ben Stokes wins ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2022:

England’s Ben Stokes has been named ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, after leading England’s stunning revival in the Test format.

  • He scored 870 runs at an average of 36.25 and picked 26 wickets at an average of 31.19
  • England’s scoring rate of 4.13 across 15 Tests in 2022 was the second highest in history and the most since Australia in 1910.
  • Since taking over as England captain, he has led the team to nine wins from 10 Tests.

Nepal’s wicketkeeper Aasif Sheikh wins ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2022:

Nepal wicketkeeper Aasif Sheikh has been named the recipient of the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2022. He became the first player from Nepal to win the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award.

  • He has been named the winner of the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award for his decision not to run out Andy McBrine after the Irish star tripped while attempting a run.

ICC team of the year 2022: 

i.ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2022 includes 11 players who made remarkable returns in 2022 with either bat, ball or all round talents. India’s keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been included in the list as Wicket keeper. He is the only Indian featured on the ICC’s Men’s Test Team of the Year 2022.

ii.ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2022 features 11 Women cricketers with outstanding performance in Women’s T20Is in 2022. India’s Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh and Renuka Singh have been named on the list.

iii.ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2022 features 11 players who make the cut in T20Is in 2022.  Former India captain Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are the Indian players featured on the list.

iv.ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2022 includes 11 players who dominated the ODI, the 50-over format of men’s cricket in 2022. India’s Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer and right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj were featured on the list.

v.ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2022 includes 11 players that set the highest of standards in the ODI in 2022. Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Renuka Singh are the Indian women cricketer featured on the list.
