The Unstoppable Kepler discovered more than 1000 planets

NASA’s Kepler spacecraft has discovered more than 1,000 alien planets since it’s launch in March 2009. Kepler has found more than half of all known exoplanets to date. The telescope has also spotted 3,200 additional planet candidates.

Two of the newly validated planets are named as Kepler-438b and Kepler-442b. The former one is 475 light-years away and it is 12 per cent bigger than Earth, while the later one is 1,100 light-years away and it is 33 per cent bigger than Earth.

Scientists are working on the Kepler’s four-year data set using sophisticated software that is highly sensitive to the tiny telltale signatures of small Earth-sized planets.
