- During the launch, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said the Gobardhan scheme will provide farmers an alternative income of at least Rs 1 lakh crore in the next five years.
- The Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme is implemented under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin-Phase 2, by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Jal Shakti ministry.

About GOBAR-DHAN Scheme:
Announced– The scheme was announced in February 2018.
Ministry– It is under the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
- The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation will assist each district with technical know-how and financial support of Rs 50 lakh for achieving safe management of cattle and biodegradable waste in rural areas while converting it into income for farmers and preventing disease by maintaining sanitation.
Purpose– To ensure cleanliness in villages by converting bio-waste including cattle waste, kitchen leftovers, crop residue and market waste to enhance the lives of villagers.
Significance– The scheme is an priority programme under SBMG Phase II.The scheme aims to augment income of farmers by converting biodegradable waste into compressed biogas (CBG).
Beneficiaries– It will offer economic and resource benefits to farmers and households. It will also benefit rural people and women in particular.
Benefit– It will support biodegradable waste recovery and conversion of waste into resources, among others.
