Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launches Madhukranti portal and Honey Corners of NAFED in New DelhiOn 7th April 2021, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoA&FW), launched the Madhukranti Portal and Honey Corners of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation (NAFED) in New Delhi.

Madhukranti Portal:

i.TheMadhukranti portal is an initiative of the National Bee Board(NBB) under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM).

ii.Indian Bank is the technical and banking partner of the digital platform.

iii.NBB has signed a memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with Indian Bank for this project.

Aim:

To facilitate online registration to achieve a traceability source of Honey and other beehive products over the digital platform.

Features:

i.The portal has the functionalities to create a database of all stakeholders involved in honey and other hive product production, sales and marketing chain.

ii.This will also support checking the quality and source of adulteration of honey.

iii.In the first phase, the one-line registration of beekeepers was launched.

iv.In the 2nd phase, through a mobile application, all the sales transactions in honey trading will be captured to achieve traceability.

Honey FPOs:

The NAFED has developed around 15 Honey corners, 1 in each 5 NAFED Bazaar at Ashram, New MotiBagh and East of Kailash, Panchkula and Mussoorie in their retail stores.

National Beekeeping and Honey Mission(NBHM):

i.National Beekeeping and Honey Mission(NBHM) is a new Central Sector Scheme approved by the Government of India for Rs.500 crores allotted under the AtmaNirbhar Bharat Announcement for overall promotion and development of scientific beekeeping.

ii.The Honey mission will help to increase the income of farmers, employment generation and increase in exports and achieve the goals of “Sweet Revolution”.

iii.The NBHM is implemented through NBB.

On 26th November 2020, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare virtually inaugurated the Honey Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO) Programs of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) under the “Formation & Promotion of 10,000 FPOs” Scheme in 5 states (West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan).
