Ravi Shankar Prasad Launched UMANG International App for 9 Countries during Online Conference

On 23rd November, 2020 Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of Communications launched the International version of UMANG App termed, ‘UMANG International’ App to during the Online conference to celebrate 3 years of UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance) and it’s more than 2000 services milestone.

  • ‘UMANG International’ App is extended for 9 countries United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Netherlands, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. The occasion saw the launch of UMANG’s international version by Ravi Shankar Prasad in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
  • It was also notified that a voice based solution using Artificial Intelligence (AI) of UMANG will be developed to reach people living in the remotest areas of India.

Aim behind UMANG International Launch:

This has been launched to help Indian international students, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Indian tourists abroad, to avail Government of India services, anytime.  It also focuses on creating interest amongst foreign tourists to visit India through its “Indian Culture” services.

Launch of e-Book-3 Saal Umang Bemisaal:

To mark the three years of UMANG, the minister also launched an e-Book “3 Saal Umang Bemisaal- #3YearsofUMANG” which presents major milestones of UMANG and its services available for different segments of society. Click here for e-Book

UMANG Awards for Partner Departments of Centre and States Unveiled

The Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also unveiled the newly instituted UMANG Awards for Partner Departments of Centre and States based on the highest number of monthly average transactions across services. Following table shows the awards and their awardees:

Key partners of UMANG were also present during the conference viz. EPFO, ESIC, Ministries of External Affairs (MEA), Health, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG), Education, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Senior Officers from the Cabinet Secretariat also attended it.

About UMANG:

Launched on November 23, 2017 by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi with 163 services it reached nearly 643 services as on March 2020; and now it grown to provide 2039 services (373 from 88 Central departments, 487 from 101 departments of 27 States and 1,179 services for utility bill payments).

  • Developed by the MeitY and National e-Governance Division, it is all-in-one single, unified, secure, multi-channel, multi-lingual, multi-service mobile application providing access to high impact services of various Central Government and State Governments Departments.

i.On October 8, 2020, Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Ministry of Education (MoE) virtually inaugurated the Gyan Circle Ventures, a MeitY (funded Technology Business Incubator (TBI) of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Sri City (Chittoor), Andhra Pradesh (AP) through Video Conference from New Delhi.

ii.Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the virtual RAISE 2020 – ‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020’ – A 5-day Global AI (Artificial Intelligence) Summit which was organized by MeitY in partnership with National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog.
