125th edition of French Open 2021The 125th Edition of  French Open 2021 (also known as Roland Garros)  took place from May 30-June 13, 2021 at  Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France.

  • It is the 2nd Grand Slam of 2021 and is a Clay-Court
  • It is organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Novak Djokovic wins his 2nd French Open TitleNovak Djokovic (Serbia) defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) to win the Men’s Singles Title French Open 2021. It is Djokovic’s 2nd French Open Title & 19th Grand Slam Title.

  • With 19 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic is just one Grand Slam Title away from tying Rafael Nadal (Spain) & Roger Federer’s (Switzerland) record of 20 Grand Slam Titles.
  • Djokovic became the 1st player in the Open Era to win all 4 Major Grand Slams twice (which is called a double career Grand Slam).
  • Djokovic’s 1st French Open Title came in 2016. His 18th Grand Slam Title was the 2021 Australian Open Title.

Barbora Krejcikova wins both Women’s Singles & Doubles Title of French Open

Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) defeated Anastasia Pavylyunchenkova (Russia) to win the Women’s Singles Title of the French Open. It is her maiden Grand Slam Title,  she  became the 1st woman from Czech Republic to clinch the French Open Singles title since Hana Mandikolikova in 1981.

  • Barbora along with her partner Katerlina Siniakova (Czech Republic) defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) & Iga Swiatek (Poland) to win the Women’s Doubles Title of French Open 2021.
  • With both wins (singles & doubles), Barbora became the 1st woman since Mary Pierce in 2000 to win the Singles and Doubles Title in the same year at French Open.
  • Barbora Krejcikova also became the 1st player to win Women’s Single and Doubles Titles in the same year since Mary Pierce (France) in 2000.
  • She became the 1st woman to win both the singles and doubles events at a Grand Slam since Serena Williams in 2016.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert & Nicolas Mahut wins Men’s Doubles Title

French pair of Pierre-Huues Herbert & Nicola Mahut became the 1st French pair to win the men’s doubles title at the French Open 2021, defeating the Kazakhstani pair of Alexander Bublik & Andrey Golubev.

  • It is the 5th Doubles Grand Slam title for Herbert & Nicolas Mahut.

Desirae Krawczyk, Joe Salisbury wins Mixed Doubles Title

Desirae Krawczyk (USA) & Joe Salisbury (UK) defeated Russian pair of Elena Vesnina & Aslan Karatsev.

  • It is Krawczyk & Salisbury’s 1st Grand Slam Mixed Doubles Title.
  • Salisbury became the 1st player from Britain to become a Roland Garros Champion since 1982, when John Lloyd had won the Mixed Doubles Title with Wendy Turnbull.

Naomi Osaka & Roger Federer withdraw from French Open

Women’s World Number 2 Naomi Osaka (Japan) & Men’s World Number 8 and 20-time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer (Switzerland) withdrew from the French Open 2021.
