Stanford University, US releases List of Top 2% Scientists of the World; 1492 Indians feature in the list

 

14 scientists from IIT-BHU in world's top 2% scientists' list by Stanford University new

Stanford University, United States (US) has released a list of Top 2% Scientists of the world. The list has 1, 59, 683 persons and 1, 492 Indians have found a place in it. The scientists have been selected in the global list on the basis of their research paper’s International Evaluation.

Majority of Indians are from Premier Institutions like IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science). They represent fields like physics, material sciences, chemical engineering, plant biology, energy and others.

The list also shows that many non-Nobel Laureates outrank Nobel Laureates.

Basis of the study:

i.The study is based on Scopus (Abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature) that ranks journals and gives a citation index.

ii.It is on the basis of standardized citation indications which include information on number of citations, H-Index, co-authorship and a composite indicator.

iii.The results have been published in PLOS Biology and have been classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields in the report.

Indian Scientists:

16 Indian Scientists are ranked 30 or higher in the world.

i.14 Scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have figured in the list.

ii.The list also includes 22 faculty members or researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.

iii.Two Indians Ashoke Sen (Ranked 13) and T. Padmanabhan (Ranked 24) have been featured in the list in the field of Nuclear & Particle Physics.

iv.There are Two Indians in the field of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry – Professor Gautam Desiraju (Rank 2) and CNR Rao (Rank 3)

v.Two Indians Dr Ashok Pandey (Rank 8) & Dr S Venkata Mohan (Rank 29) have featured in Biotechnology list.
