QS Asia Rankings 2024: India features Highest Number of Universities; China’s Peking University Tops

QS Asia Rankings 2024On November 8, 2023, the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Ranking: Asia 2024 was released, showcasing 148 Indian universities which is 30 more than the last edition. With this, India now holds the highest representation in Asia’s higher education system, surpassing China (133) and Japan (96).

  • India has 118 universities in 2023 ranking.
  • This is the 16th edition of the QS World University Ranking in this category.

Peking University, Beijing, China has retained the 1st position in the QS Asia Ranking 2024, while, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) in Mumbai, Maharashtra grabbed the top spot in India with 40th position in the Asia Ranking.

Overall QS has featured 856 universities from 25 countries and territories

Highlights:

i.The IITB secured the 149th position in the QS World University Ranking 2024.

ii.IIT Bombay secured the highest being 100 for the faculty staff with PhD as an indicator and the lowest (2.1) for Inbound Exchange as an indicator.

iii.Peking University, Beijing, secured the highest (100) for academic reputation as an indicator and the lowest (56.6) for Inbound Exchange as an indicator.

iv.China’s research impact makes it the most influential research hub in Asia.

v.Malaysia has an exceptional concentration of top-quality universities, with 22% of its institutions ranking among Asia’s top 100.

vi.Universities in Japan are among the most prestigious in the region, both for academics and employers.

vii.Kazakhstan ranks higher than any other Central Asian country, with 34 ranked universities

viii.A total of 148 institutions are featured in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2024 for the first time ever.

  • Institute from Myanmar, Cambodia and Nepal featured in the rankings for the first time.

i.According to the Times Higher Education(THE) ‘Young University Rankings(YUR)-2023’ , Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), Kerala has emerged as top among Indian universities and secured 77 globally. Nanyang Technological University, Singapore tops the list in 2023.
