Overview of Tony Awards 2019

2019 Tony Awards was the 73rd edition of Tony Awards held on June 9, 2019, to recognize achievement in Broadway productions during the 2018–19 season. It was held in Radio City Music Hall, New York City.It was hosted by James Corden.

Highlights:

  • Hadestown, a musical about a young couple’s dark trip to the Underworld, was the most winning production of the season by winning eight awards, including Best Musical.
  • The Ferryman won four awards, including Best Play. Original musicals The Cher Show and Tootsie, the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, and the new play Ink each won two awards.
  • 31-year-old actress Ali Stroker, won best featured actress for her outstanding role as Ado Annie in Rogers and Hammerstein’s ‘Oklahoma!’ and made history by becoming the first actor in a wheelchair to win a Tony Award.
