NTPC Ltd  Joined  UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate for Water Conservation and Management

NTPC joins UN's 'CEO Water'NTPC Limited, India’s leading power utility under the Ministry of Power signed with UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate, an initiative to mobilize business leaders on water security and sanitation as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.

  • This partnership brings NTPC chairman Gurdeep Singh to be working with a select group of business leaders who recognize the importance of water stewardship and have been working to save water resource throughout the world.

Efforts of NTPC towards water conservation:

i.NTPC has taken a series of measures across its plant on water management.

ii.The NTPC will work on promoting the 3R’s – Reduce, reuse, recycle – for conservation and management of water.

iii.NTPC is committed to address the water sustainability issues through implementing a Water Policy that will serve as a directive for establishing water management strategies, systems, processes, practices and research initiatives.

About CEO Water Mandate:

i.It is designed to assist the companies in the development, implementation and disclosure of comprehensive water strategies and policies.

ii.It also provides a platform for the companies to partner with other companies with similar ideas, UN agencies, public authorities, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.

NTPC Renewable Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Electricity Generator – National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC Ltd) signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with state-run power utility Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).

  • As per the agreement NTPC Renewable Energy will sell power from its upcoming 150 megawatts (MW) solar project in Gujarat to GUVNL at Rs 2.20/unit.
