- Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosle known as the “Father of the Indian Navy”, is the creator of India’s naval force.
The events of Navy Day 2022 are organised as a part of the Amrit Kaal’ with the commencement of the celebrations of 75 years of independence of India.
About Operation Trident 1971:
i.Operation Trident was launched on the night of December 4 – 5, 1971, to attack the Pakistan naval headquarters of Karachi.
ii.It was the first time India used an anti-ship missile in an operation.
iii.The Indian Navy fleet entered Pakistani waters through Gujarat’s Okha Port and attacked minesweeper PNS Muhafiz killing 33 Pakistani sailors and disintegrating the vessel.
Events of Navy Day 2022:
i.As a part of the celebration of Navy Day 2022, the Indian Navy demonstrated India’s combat prowess and capability through an ‘Operational Demonstration’ at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. For the first time, the Navy Day Celebrations are being conducted outside the National Capital, New Delhi, Delhi.
ii.Droupadi Murmu, President of India and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, witnessed the event as the Guest of Honour.
iii.The event culminated with a sunset ceremony and illumination by ships at anchorage.
iv.Indian Naval ships, submarines, aircraft and Special Forces from Eastern, Western and Southern Naval Command showcased the capability and versatility of the Indian Navy during the events.
Navy Week 2022:
The Indian Navy Week is annually observed across India from 1st to 7th December during which various activities and events will be organised.

Ahead of the Navy Week 22, a concert by the Naval Central Band was conducted on 25 November 2022 at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Indian Navy has also organised a blood Donation Camp at National Hydrographic Office (NHO) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
