National Tourism Day 2022 – January 25 

National Tourism Day is annually observed across India on 25th January to create awareness of the importance of travelling and protecting nature. The day aims to highlight the role of the tourism sector in the overall economy of India.

The theme of National Tourism Day 2022 is ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourism’.

Events:

i.The Ministry of Tourism celebrates the National Tourism Day 2022 under the aegis of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.

ii.A national-level programme as a part of the ‘National Tourism Day’ has been held at Pochampally village of Telangana.

Note: 

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has chosen Pochampally village as one of the Best Tourism Villages 2021. Pochampally is renowned for its handloom waved Ikat sarees.

iii.The programmes include cultural events, light and sound shows will be organised at the 75 major tourism centres and all tourist destinations across the country.

Webinar:

i.As a part of the National Tourism Day 2022, The Ministry of Tourism has organised a webinar on ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourism’.

ii.G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism has also digitally released a book on 75 lesser-known tourism destinations in India.

World Tourism Day:

The United Nations(UN)’s World Tourism Day (WTD) is annually observed across the world on 27th September to create awareness about the social, cultural, political and economic value of tourism and its contribution towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals(SDG).
