National Teachers Day – September 5 2016

Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5 every year across the country since 1962 in honor and deference of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was born on 5th September, 1888.

• Radhakrishnan became the second President of India in 1962 and he was a great scholar, philosopher and teacher of modern India and was conferred with the Bharat Ratna back in 1954.
• This year President Mukherjee presented National awards to teachers for their distinguished services and received the first copy of a booklet Umang 2015 which was released by Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia.
• The president also interacted about India’s political history, its development since independence and menace of terrorism with students of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in New Delhi on this occasion.

Dr Radhakrishnan hailed from Thiruttani in then Madras Presidency.

• He was the first Vice President of India (in office from 1952–1962), Second President of India (in office from 1962 to 1967).
• He was honoured with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna (1954) and he was the first recipient of Bharat Ratna along with politician C. Rajagopalachari, scientist C. V. Raman in recognition of his meritorious service to mankind.

CBSE Teachers’ Award for the year 2015:

In the Function organised in New Delhi on teachers day Union Human Resource Minister for State Upendra Kushwaha conferred CBSE Teachers’ 2015 Award for their innovations in classroom teaching.

• The CBSE Teachers’ 2015 Award conferring ceremony saw a thirty three (33) principals and teachers from across the country and abroad for their role and impact in strengthening future generations.
• The awards consists of a Merit certificate, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-
