National Science day – February 28

National Science day is celebrated on February 28, every year to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C.V.Raman in 1928.National council for science technology and communication asked the government to designate February 28 as science day in 1986.Since then this day has been celebrated in every school, college, science organizations all over India.

  • To spread significance of scientific applications used in day to day life
  • To display all the efforts, activities and achievements in the field of science
  • To discuss the issues and implement technologies for development of science
  • To encourage scientific minded citizens of the country
  • To popularize science and technology

  • The Councils of Science and Technology in Every State
  • The Defence Research And Development Organization

Points to note

  • In 2009, the National award for Science Communication was given for five institutions by the Indian Department of science and technology
  • Highest Award was given to Vikram Sarabhai Community Science centre for their contribution to science education
