MSDE Dharmendra Pradhan Launched IndiaSkills 2023-24 & Felicitates World Skills 2022 Winners

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launches the IndiaSkills 2023-24Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) launched the IndiaSkills 2023-24, India’s most significant National Skill Competition program.

  • He also felicitated the winners of the 46th WorldSkills Competition (WSC 2022 Special Edition WSC2022SE), which was held between 7th September and 26th November 2022 across 15 countries.
  • India secured 11th position in the WSC2022SE, with 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals, and 13 Medallions for Excellence. In 2019, India held the 13th position.

IndiaSkills:

i.IndiaSkills, India’s biggest skill competition, is the precursor to the WSC.

  • Participants who excel in IndiaSkills at the national level will take part in the 47th WSC, the global competition, which is set to take place from 10 to 15 September 2024 in Lyon, France.

ii.The candidates can enroll themselves for IndiaSkills on the Skill India Digital (SID) platform starting from 17th October 2023.

iii.This will discover skilled individuals in the remotest corners of India and provides a platform for these talented youths to showcase their skills.

Skill India Digital (SID):

i.It is a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) aimed at synergising and transforming the skills, education, employment, and entrepreneurship ecosystem of India.

ii.It will act as a bridge between the employees and employers and allow educational institutes to create/modify curricula as per industry demands.

India Skills Competition 2023-24:

i.The launch of the India Skills Competition 2023-24 meets the aspiration of young India by promoting global standards of skills, providing competitiveness, and encouraging innovation.

ii.The competition will be held in more than 15 sectors including automotive, electronics, green jobs, and manufacturing with competitors competing in trades like Autobody Repair, Additive Manufacturing, Water Technology, etc.

WorldSkills Competitions 2022 Special Edition:

i.WSC2022SE was the official replacement for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022, cancelled in May 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ii.WSC2022SE was held across 26 cities in 15 countreis Europe, North America, and East Asia. The venues includes Austria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finaland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, and The United States of America.

iii.Around 1,000 Competitors from 56 Member countries and regions competed in 62 skill competitions.

iv.China secured the 1st position followed by South Korea in the 2nd and Chinese Taipei in the 3rd position in the WorldSkills 2022 Special Edition.

WorldSkills Competitions:

i.Founded in 1950, WorldSkills serves as the global hub for skills excellence and development, the Competition takes place every 2 years in a Member Country.

ii.It fosters a collaborative environment for youth, industries, and educators, facilitating competitive opportunities and skill development.

iii.From traditional trades to cutting-edge technology careers, WorldSkills offers a diverse range of skill sets across various sectors.

iv.With 85 member countries and regions, WorldSkills collaborates with youth, educators, governments, and industries, preparing today’s workforce for the demands of the future.

WorldSkills India: It is led by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under MSDE and has been actively representing India in WorldSkills International competitions since 2011.

India in WSC2022 Special Edition:

i.Indian Competitors, who represented India at WSC2022SE, were selected via IndiaSkills Competition 2021. A total of 165 talented individuals were trained for the WSC.

ii.India showcased 56 competitors and 50 experts in 50 different skills on the global platform. 19% of the Indian competitors were female.

iii.Team India also participated in 6 new future skills listed under Industry 4.0, Robot System Integration, Additive Manufacturing, Renewable Energy, Mobile Applications Development, and Digital Construction.
