MEITY and IBM India collaborate to upskill members of CSC ecosystem in AI & Cloud

IBM,-MeitY-collaborate-to-build-future-ready-skills,-enhance-employabilityMinistry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITY) and IBM (International Business Machines) India have collaborated to establish an education & Skilling ecosystem through Common Services Centre (CSC) Academy (part of the Common Services Centre scheme) to upskill members of the CSC ecosystem in new age technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Cloud.
It will focus on skill upgradation through experiential learning which are aimed at enhancing employability.

Objective:

i.CSC Academy, IBM India along with implementation partners CSR Box, Uva Jagriti Sansthan and Jeevitam will focus on exposing village level entrepreneurs to new-age technologies like AI and cloud.

ii.The collaboration aims to provide access to employment to 4000 village level youth in identified rural areas.

Key Points:

i.IBM India will provide content from its skilling programs – SkillsBuild and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for Girls, which is currently being used for training services and in community development programs across 6000 CSC Academies.

ii.IBM will conduct training, workshops, train-the-trainer programs.

iii.They will partner MEITY to create training materials and conduct orientation camps.

iv.The collaboration with IBM India is in line with National Education Policy 2020’s emphasis on learning 21st century skills for ensuring future-readiness of India’s youth to realize the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Gist about SkillsBuild and STEM

SkillsBuild has covered 40,000 learners with 1.10 lakh learning hours and 80,000 course completion since its launch in November 2019 in India.

The IBM STEM for Girls is a three-year program that initially reached over 600 secondary schools and 78,000 girls and 45,000 boys in the first year. Its goal is to advance the STEM skills and career prospects of two lakh girls and one lakh boys by promoting digital literacy, coding/tech skills, career development, and girls” empowerment by 2022.

CSC Academy:

The Common Services Academy (CSC) Academy was set up in 2017 to provide access to professional learning for learners of diverse backgrounds and educational needs.

i.It supports more than 3.7 lakh common service centres which includes 60, 000 Women only centres.

ii.It is planning to set up 6, 000 CSC Academy centres across the country, out of which 5000 have already been set up.

i.On October 8, 2020 IBM India joined hands with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to expand the scope of two DST initiatives Vigyan Jyoti, Engage with Science (Vigyan Prasar).
