Maharashtra Government announces construction of 800 kms Nagpur-Mumbai expressway

Maharashtra Chief Minister DEVENDRA FADNAVIS announced that the government will build an 800-km-long expressway connecting Mumbai with Nagpur by September 2019 on JULY 31, 2015.

  • Trough this Expressway, A road trip between Mumbai and Nagpur will soon take just 10 hours nearly half the time it currently takes to complete the journey.
  • The estimated cost of the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur expressway is Rs30,000 crore.
  • The project will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, four lanes will be built. In the second phase, the government proposes to concretize the road, add two more lanes, and build tunnels and the exit roads that will connect to smaller cities and villages.
  • This would be a six-lane road and in the first phase a four lane road would be constructed. This road will be equipped with CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi facility and optical fiber network.

This project would be completed in coming five years and the travel time between the state capital and second capital would be brought down from 14 hours to 10 hours.
