Madhya Pradesh Government sets up 1st of its kind ‘Gau Cabinet’ for Cow Protection;NE’s 1st Cow Hospital inaugurated at Dibrugarh, Assam

Madhya Pradesh govt to set up gau cabinet for cow protectionOn November 18, 2020, Madhya Pradesh (MP) Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan established the First of its kind Gau Cabinet’ in the country for the protection and promotion of cattle in the state. 6 Departments – Animal Husbandry, Forest, Panchayat and Rural Development, Revenue, Home and Farmers Welfare Departments will be part of the ‘Gau Cabinet’.

Objective:

The ‘Gau cabinet” has been set up with the aim of conservation of cows and its progeny.

Inaugural meeting of ‘Gau Cabinet’:

The First meeting of the ‘Gau Cabinet’ was held virtually on November 22, 2020 at Kamdhenu Gau Abhayaranya in Agar Malwa distinct – India’s First cow sanctuary.  Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired the meeting.

i.The Gau Cabinet resolved to start 2000 Gaushalas (cowsheds) in the state.

ii.They discussed levying ‘Gau Seva kar (Cow Cess)’, and also to set up Gobar gas plants in villages and to give connections to rural families through these plants.

iii.A veterinary and Animal Husbandry Science Centre will be set up in Salaria Cow-Sanctuary in Agar-Malwa district through Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur.

iv.The Cabinet formulated an action plan for conserving and promoting Four Native Breeds of Cattle – Malvi, Nimari, Kankatha, and Gaolo.

v.Grasslands to be developed in degraded forests under the Forests under the Forest Department, Fodder production to be increased and sent to Gaushalas.

‘Mantri Parishad Samiti’:

i.The State Government also decided to form the ‘Mantri Parishad Samiti’ to work for protection and promotion of cows.

ii.It would be represented by Ministers of departments related to animals and the principal secretary.

North East’s First-ever cow hospital:

On November 22, 2020, A cow shelter in Assam’s Dibrugarh inaugurated Northeast’s First-ever cow hospital ‘Surbhi Aarogyashala’ on the occasion of Gopashtami.

i.The hospital is set up by Gopal Gaushala at a cost of INR 17 lakhs

ii.It will provide service in a 30 km radius.
