- He is also the oldest person to become the CM of Mizoram.
- He is the first non-Congress, non-MNF CM of the Mizoram since its formation in 1987.
- Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office and secrecy at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizwal, Mizoram.

The swearing-in ceremony also witnessed the presence of all MNF Members of the Legislative Assembly(MLAs) including its leader and outgoing CM Zoramthanga.
2023 Mizoram Assembly Election:
i.Mizoram Legislative Assembly elections were held on 7th November 2023 to elect 40 members.
ii.ZPM won a clear majority with 27 seats against the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF)’s 10 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has secured 2 seats and Indian National Congress (INC) won 1 seat.
- For the 1st time, a party other than the MNF or INC has been voted into power in Mizoram.
iii.As per the strength of the Assembly, Mizoram can have 12 ministers, including the CM.
Other Noted Appointment:
i.11 other MLAs also took oath as ministers of Mizoram.
- Out of these 11 MLAs, 7 will be serving as cabinet ministers and the rest 4 will be serving as Ministers of State (MoS – independent charge).
Cabinet ministers: K Sapdanga (ZPM working president), Vanlalhlana, C. Lalsawivunga, Lalthansanga, Vanlalthlana, P.C. Vanlalruata, Lalrinpuii (the only woman minister in the new cabinet)
MoS: F Rodingliana, B Lalchhanzova, Lalnilwama and Lalnghinglova Hmar.
About Lalduhoma:
i.Lalduhoma joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1977 and has served as the security in-charge of former Prime Minister (PM) Indira Gandhi.
ii.He has also served as a principal assistant to the first CM of Mizoram, C. Chhunga from 1972-77.
iii.He joined the INC in 1984 and became a Member of Parliament of the 8th Lok Sabha from Mizoram in 1984.
iv.He withdrew his INC membership in 1986. Following this, He was disqualified from the parliament for the violation of the Anti Defection Law of 1985. He became India’s first MP to be disqualified under this law.
v.In 2018, he was elected to the state assembly as an independent candidate and he was disqualified from the state assembly under the Anti-Defection law in 2020, after the formation ZPM.

ZPM is a coalition of six regional parties of Mizoram namely,
Mizoram People’s Conference, Zoram Nationalist Party, Zoram Exodus Movement, Zoram Decentralisation Front, Zoram Reformation Front, and Mizoram People’s Party.
Baryl Vanneihsangi becomes youngest woman MLA in Mizoram
Baryl Vanneihsangi(32) of ZPM elected from Aizawl South-III constituency, has become the youngest woman Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Mizoram.
- Prior to this, she served as a Councillor in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Note: For the first time, Mizoram has more than 1 woman MLA. In 2023, 3 women were elected as the MLA, this is the highest number of women was selected to Legislative assembly since the formation of the state.
- The 3 women are: Lalrinpuii (ZPM), Baryl Vanneihsangi (ZPM) and Pravo Chakma (MNF).
