On April 30, 2020, In a bid to promote skill development, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) administration has signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Tata Technologies limited to set up 2 Centres for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIITs) in the Union Territory(UT), one each at Government Polytechnic Colleges at Jammu and Baramulla.
i.Setting up these two centers will cost around Rs 360 crore, with Tata Technologies spending about Rs 300 crore. Each center will start 18 courses and will have a capacity of 1825 seats.
ii.The UT will provide space to set up these centers. At the same time, Tata Technologies will provide industrial hardware, tools, equipment and machinery.
iii.Tata Technologies will train students for 3- years through the ‘Train the Trainer program’ & the special thing about these two centers is that after training in various courses, students will be given 100 % placement.
iv.The move will help improve the academic and training curriculum in technical education & innovators will also be helped to develop new products to promote technology startups.
v.The MOU was signed through video conferencing by Navin Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Government, Technical Education Department, on behalf of UT government, and Anand Bhade, president of Tata Technologies Ltd in the presence of J&K Lieutenant-Governor GC Murmu.
