Japan To Stipulate 80% Emission Cut Goal By 2050

Following the International Climate Agreement reached in Paris in December 2015, the Japanese government will stipulate a long-term goal of cutting green house emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 from current levels. A plan is being compiled to be completed before the G7 Summit due in May.

  • Under this plan, Japanese Government will seek to introduce more renewable sources while also aiming to have all households shift to more energy efficient LED Lights by 2030. It aims to bring up the ratio of nuclear and renewable energy to 44% or more by 2030 to prevent the non-nuclear thermal power generation from rising.

Agreement:

  • To set an action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to below 2^ C.
  • To limit the increase to 1.5^C to reduce the impact of climate change.
  • Governments to come together every five years to set more ambitious targets and report to each other on how well they are doing.
  • It will come into effect in 2020.
